Weekly Tip: Contact your credit card issuer to get a lower interest rate.

Are you sick and tired of having a high interest rate? If you have a good payment history with your credit card issuer, you may just want to call and talk to them. Simply asking for a lower interest rate will often get you a lower interest rate. Credit card issuers don’t want to lose loyal customers, so if you have established a good history with them, they will be willing to do a lot to keep your business.

So how do you actually do it?

Call the number on the back of your card, and ask to speak to a customer representative. Once you are on the phone with a rep, emphasize your loyalty to the company, excellent payment history, and let them know that you are unhappy with your current high interest rate. If the representative isn’t willing to lower your interest rate, continue to call and speak with other representatives. In many cases, one of them will be willing to cut you a deal. Don’t be shy about asking to speak with a supervisor as well.

Simply calling and asking can help save you a lot of money in the long run. And most of the time, your credit card issuer will be more than happy to make the change!
