A credit card swipe device that can attach to certain mobile devices is now being offered by Square.
A company created to make credit card payments more accessible announced it has released new payment technology.
Square, which was founded by Twitter co-creator Jack Dorsey, launched the new card-reading attachment, which can be used with certain mobile devices. Those include Apple's iPhone and iPod touch, along with Motorola's Droid.
In a blog post on Square's website, Dorsey said one goal of the company is to add further access to information in the financial world.
"When you think about it, paying someone is just another form of communication, an exchange of value that deserves to have the same design and product considerations that every social service prides itself on maintaining," Dorsey wrote.
Those interested in using them can sign up for an account at www.Squareup.com. Though the card readers are available for free, the company does charge fees for each transaction.
Square already made the reader available for the iPad earlier this year, and the software that supports the swipe attachment can be downloaded at Apple's App Store.
