Paperless ticketing aims to protect consumers

Beyond being a good way to discourage scalpers and ticket resellers from driving up prices, the new trend of "paperless ticketing" could help consumers protect themselves from being ripped off when trying to attend concerts and sporting events.
According to a report in the Washington Post, the purchaser of a paperless ticket only needs their photo ID and the credit card with which they purchased their seat to gain admittance to the venue. This requirement, along with the fact that no paper ticket is issued, makes it much more secure for consumers to buy seats to major events. A simple swipe of the credit card will confirm that the seat belongs to the cardholder.
This new system is being pushed by artists as diverse as Metallica and Miley Cyrus, and various sports organizations as well, and is growing in popularity. According to Businessweek, a recent vote by the New Jersey legislature approved wider use of paperless ticketing to cut down on abusive practices from scalpers and ticket resellers.
