Many BlackBerry smartphone owners looking for a way to transfer money or make a credit card payment now have that option.
According to MasterCard, it is now offering its MoneySend service for all BlackBerries in the U.S. The program works similarly to many online payment services, as consumers can send money, pay someone else for a product or service, and request funds. One spokesman for the company said it can be used for everything from IOUs to payments to a roommate, babysitter, or housekeeper.
The company said MoneySend users will have the ability to accept credit card and debit card payments and send money from their bank accounts. Users can link their existing bank or credit card accounts to their MoneySend profile on their BlackBerry once they download the application for the phone. They can also keep money in their MoneySend account.
This new program is likely intended to be a competitor to established payment services such as PayPal, which is owned by eBay and is by far the most popular program of its type.
