Travelers who have a Delta SkyMiles card will be able to check their first bag for free starting June 1.
Delta Airlines recently announced that travelers who have one of the company's American Express cards will be able to check their first bag for free.
The change takes effect June 1 and represents up to $50 in savings for those traveling with the airline who have a Delta SkyMiles card. As many as nine people on one reservation can take advantage of the offer.
SkyMiles vice president Jeff Robertson said the airline's long history with American Express has allowed Delta to make the baggage offer to its customers.
"Baggage fee waivers are one of the benefits we provide to reward some of our most engaged customers," Robertson said.
AmEx recently reported an $885 million gain in net income during the first quarter, marking a 103 percent increase over the same time in 2009. The company also announced it is offering a new prepaid product designed for teens, which will allow parents to monitor their spending habits.
