Creditnet's Full Review

USAA receives top-notch rankings in customer service each year.  If you are eligible for a USAA membership and seeking a credit card to help rebuild your credit profile and improve your credit scores, you should certainly consider the USAA Secured Card® American Express® Card.  This is a real credit card, not a prepaid or debit card, which means responsible use can help build or rebuild your credit.

This is a secured credit card, so you'll open a 2-year CD that will serve as your security deposit.  This CD is an interest-earning CD, so not only are you able to determine your own credit limit based on how much you put into the CD, but you'll also be growing your money along the way.  Your credit limit can be anywhere from $250 to $5,000.  As you use your secured credit card wisely and never go over your limit, positive payment history will be reported to the major credit bureaus and you should see improvement in your credit scores.  It really is that easy!

Favorite Card Features:

The USAA Secured Card® American Express® Card allows users to open a CD and earn interest on their deposits.  Cardholders also enjoy no foreign transaction fees when traveling outside the United States, collision damage waiver cover for most rental vehicles, and identity theft resolution services should you become victim of credit card fraud.

Least Favorite Features:

It has a $35 annual fee, and unlike an unsecured credit card, you must have at least $250 in order to open an account and collateralize your credit limit.  However, keep in mind that any money you put into the CD will grow with interest.

Our Final Take:

If you're eligible for a USAA membership and looking for a new secured credit card, this is a no brainer decision.  USAA is consistently recognized as having superior customer service and excellent credit products, so the USAA Secured Card® American Express® Card could very well be the perfect fit for your wallet.  Use it responsibly, make payments on time, and never go over your limit, and your credit scores should benefit greatly over time.
