Cyber Monday - the online shopping alternative to Black Friday - is a little over two weeks away. (November 26th, to be exact.) However, credit card companies are already adding incentives to get you to shop online and, more specifically, at their online retail sites. Many credit card companies offer great discounts and cash back incentives when you shop through their online retail website, and in most cases they've partnered with hundreds of prominent brands to make your cash back rewards worthwhile.
But with so many great deals shaping up for Cyber Monday, credit card issuers like Discover have taken an extra shape towards getting you to buy online this holiday season.
Discover® More® Cardholders may or may not know that they can earn 5x Cashback Bonus® points through December on ALL online purchases, with no limits. They've also offered a similar deal for department store purchases, however the 5x Cashback Bonus® you can earn in stores is capped at $1,500. The only catch is that you must remember to enroll in the program to participate, just as they do with all quarterly rotating categories. So clearly they want you to spend online, and with good reason.
Their ShopDiscover website includes 200+ retailers that Discover has partnered with, and cardholders can earn anywhere from 5% to 20% Cashback Bonus points on the purchases they make there. (Chase Ultimate Rewards® website is very similar.) So, if you make your holiday shopping purchases on ShopDiscover with your Discover More® Card, you'll be earning 5x the points AND 5% to 20% on cash back savings for as much as 25% off select items. While we've been semi-critical of enrollment programs in the past, we applaud Discover for keeping their rotating categories timely and convenient, especially considering it's the busiest time of the year in terms of spending.
And while you may not find everything on your kids' Christmas lists on the ShopDiscover website, you'll definitely make some headway with retailers like Apple, Macy's and Sony available for savings. However, since you'll still earn 5x the Cashback on every purchase you make online, here are some Cyber Monday highlights where you can stand to save money AND earn cash back...
