Discover it Card Review

Update: This credit card offer may have changed since this article was published. You can check out the most up-to-date details on this card here: Discover it® Card.

The Discover it™ Card is the newest cash back credit card issued by Discover. Taking the place of the Discover More Card series - as well as numerous variations of their student More cards - consumers will find the Discover it Card very similar, albeit with some serious upgrades.

For starters, the rotating categories in which cardholders can earn up to 5% on specific items per quarter is being carried over to the Discover it Card. Like its predecessor, the Cashback Bonus is capped at $1,500 in purchases, so essentially there's no change here.

However, Discover upped the ante on the Discover it Card rewards program by offering a full 1% on all purchases outside their rotating bonus categories.

Even more upgrades come in the lack of fees. The Discover it Card maintains the 10.99%- 20.99% variable APR of its predecessor, but it's far more generous to consumers that are late on a payment; the Discover it Card will waive the first late payment fee you make, nor will it raise your APR if you make a late payment. There's also no over-limit fee and no pay-by-phone fee.

Like the Discover More Card before it, the Discover it Card is also friendly to those traveling abroad by charging 0% on foreign transaction fees. There's also no annual fee, so if you're making payments in full each month there's no charge for carrying this credit card.

Discover is also making a push to sell its service, which they describe as, well, "human", plus 100% U.S.-based. Discover's been a leader in credit card customer service for years, so even though they really didn't have to sell us on this point, it's still a solid reminder. Their new Cashback Concierge(SM) also works like a cash back tour guide that teaches cardholders how to net the most cash back using the Discover it Card, which is helpful for newcomers unfamiliar with Discover's enrollment plan.

Also, the Discover it Card lets you choose your due date and pay up to midnight EST, which beats a lot of the competition when it comes to deadline-beating payments. (Anyone that's ever attempted to make a payment on a credit card past 5pm EST knows what I'm talking about.

Finally, the intro period remains one of the strongest of any cash back credit cards on the market today and includes 0% interest on purchases and balance transfers up to 14 months. 0% fraud liability is still a mainstay on this Discover card, as well.

If you're having a tough time figuring out how this batch of new Discover cards is different than the old, it's really in the lack of fees and the upgrade in rewards. This credit card is far more generous than its predecessor on late fees and over-the-limit fees, and is a real upgrade to a credit card network that was already renowned for its service and rewards programs.

Overall, there really aren't any bad things to say about the Discover it Card. This is simply one of the best new cash back credit cards available.
