The Best Student Credit Cards for the Upcoming Semester, According to Creditnet.com

Creditnet.com (http://www.creditnet.com), an online authority on credit card reviews and advice, today announced its list of the best credit cards for students this upcoming semester.

San Diego, Calif. (PRWEB) January 03, 2013

2013 may finally be here, but odds are most college students are still on winter break. As funds stretch thin, the holiday is a popular time for students to consider applying for a new credit card tailored specifically to the life of a student.

With a couple of weeks to go before college students return to campus to hit the books, Creditnet.com, an online authority on credit cards and services for close to two decades, announced its list of the best student credit cards for the upcoming semester.

Creditnet took into account a number of factors when making its list, including ongoing APR, introductory periods and - most importantly - rewards. Since so many college students have limited funds, "free" money is considered that much more important for the average student. Here are the top three credit cards for students this semester, according to Creditnet:

1.) Journey Student Rewards from Capital One®

Creditnet regards this excellent student credit card from Capital One® because it teaches students responsible spending by rewarding on-time purchases. Not only can students earn 1% cash back on all purchases, but it also includes a 25% bonus on cash back accrued over the month in each month that a payment is made on time.

This credit card for students from Capital One is one of the very best credit-building cards on the market today. College students will have monthly credit score access as a cardholder, and it provides text and email alerts free of charge. Plus there's no annual fee and no expiration on points, making this student rewards credit card one of the very best available according to Creditnet.

2.) Discover it™ Card for Students

The newest credit card for college students in 2013 is also one of the most rewarding. For college students looking to take advantage of cash back opportunities, Discover it™ for Students offers 5% cash back on rotating categories popular with college students, including movies and restaurants through March 31st. Students earn another 1% on all other purchases made.

Like the aforementioned Capital One card, there is no annual fee. Also, for busy college students that lose track of the date, Discover will waive its $35 fee on the first late payment made and will not raise APR because of a late payment. Along those same lines, students can choose the due date and have until midnight, EST to make a payment.

The Discover it™ Card for Students prides itself on "flexibility", which is why Creditnet considers this credit card for students one of the best this semester.

3.) Citi® Dividend® Card for College Students

Not unlike the first two cards on Creditnet's list, this credit card for college students from Citibank is also regarded for its rewards program. Through March, college students earn 5% cash back on purchases made at the online retailer Zappos.com, as well as fitness clubs and drugstores. Students earn 1% on all other purchases made.

Students can also easily manage finances with mobile banking from tablets and smartphones, and there's no annual fee and no co-signer required. The ongoing APR can be slightly higher than the aforementioned student credit cards (13.99%- 23.99% APR variable), but its intro period is comparable at 7 months for those that qualify.

Overall, Creditnet.com considers this Citi card one of the three best credit cards for students this upcoming semester.
